Critiques
He uses the basic design principles to great effect, particularly the repetition of the circle motif, in the main shapes as well as the shading, and I especially like the highlights on the eyes. The face is extremely expressive, yet created with such simple shapes. The figure, the charming expression, and especially the bandages all convey a very touching story, yet there is plenty of detail in the cityscape to keep the viewer engaged.
I also think the limited color palette contributes a lot to the image, as does the restrained use of a few different textures on a few objects, and the repeated star in the sky and a few rooftops.
The one place I would fault the image is on the technical side, where there is noticeable, distracting banding in the fades in the successive roof lines. I would think that the introduction of a *tiny* bit of noise in the final uploaded image could have significantly reduced that effect, without an appreciable negative impact on the rest of the image.
But all in all, quite lovely!
